Shea Travels and Photos 1989-92

Toronto, Niagara Falls, London, Istanbul

I went to school at the U. of Toronto 1990-92. Great city.

Retractable roof of the Skydome. The Bluejays won the World Series the summer I left (1992)

Great shot of Toronto from the islands. Notice that the SkyDome roof was open on that beautiful day.

Hart House, U of T. The student commons.

I played softball with the Drama Faculty. Field in front of Hart House.

View of Hart House field from 13th floor of library. The U of Toronto is right downtown where all the action is.

National Parliament in Ottawa. Drove a roommate home in April 1992 - plenty of snow still on the ground.

Niagara Falls, about 1 1/2 hours south of Toronto.

It's a lot different from how I imagined it. The Canadian side is actually better than the US, but the US side offers boat rides right up to the base of the falls.

From another of many trips to Niagara, this time in the dead of winter - much snow and ice, freezing mist.

After returning from Toronto, I went to Germany and also made a trip to Istanbul.

I always take a moment to pet the local cat. This one was perched on a Greek column head.

Germans always buy leather goods in Turkey, so I took a tip a bought a beautiful jacket right outside the Covered Bazaar. When you shop in Turkey, the salemen usually offer something to drink (tea, coffee) and establish a friendly relationship before they take you for all you've got, unless you're the type that can haggle.

Then I took a short bus trip to London. House of Commons. Cool weather in midsummer? Or do I rarely wear shorts abroad - spot the American!

You often see street artists in European cities - chalk drawing.

Yours truly outside the Tower of London. Wish we had something like this for unruly students!

Then in 1993 I moved to Istanbul and taught English for a year. Here I am doing my nightly bit of fishing like one of the locals.
